Comparing Sony Xperia Z7 Premium and Blackberry Priv

Android platform for smartphone has gradually become the most popular Operating System on most brands. Many smart phone companies have incorporated this OS into their products and more are planning to. The latest embrace of the Android OS is that of Blackberry Limited, formerly known as Research in Motion (RIM) as it releases Blackerry Priv, the first Android powered blackberry smart phone. Sony corporation, a Japanese multinational company known for producing a wide range of electronics including smart phones has recently released a new Android Powered smart phone Sony Xperia Z5 Premium.
Unlike Blackberry Priv, the phone is not the first Android phone from its manufacturer. Many Xperia series of Sony phones are powered by Android. In this post I will compare Blackerry Priv and Sony Xperia Z5 Premium basically in terms of Hardware, OS and Cost. The cost is in Nigerian Naira.

List of Acronyms

  • RAM – Random Access Memory
  • GB – Giga Byte
  • TB – Terabyte
  • ROM – Read Only Memory
  • MP – Mega Pixel
  • PPI – Pixels per inch
  • CPU – Central Processing Unit
  • mAh – milli Ampere-Hour

Blackberry Priv
The following are the features of Blackerry Priv:
  1. 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM expandable to 2TB
  2. 1.8GHz Hexacore Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 CPU
  3. 5.4in 1440 x 2560 pixels AMOLED screen at 540 ppi
  4. Platform – Android OS 5.1
  5. Battery – 3410 mAh batt
  6. Camera – 18MP Camera, 2MP Selfie
  7. Cost – N220,000

With a whopping 18MP camera, this phone will give you a wonderful experience while taking shots and videoing. Another wonder thing about the phone is the working memory of 3GB and processing power of 1.8GHz that will allow you to run a lot of applications at once on the phone without performance problems.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium

  1. 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM expandable to 200GB
  2. 2GHz Octacore QSD 810 CPU
  3. 5.5in 2160 x 3840 pixels IPS LCD screen at 801 ppi
  4. Platform – Android OS 5.1, Touch ID
  5. Battery – 3430mAh batt
  6. Camera – 23MP camera and 5MP selfie
  7. Cost – N230,000

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is also water and dust resistance as well as incorporated with touch ID. The Touch ID is a fingerprint recognition feature available on only high end phones. Xperia Z5 Premium has very impressive camera features. Imagine how clear and impressive a picture taken with a 23 MP camera will be.
Both smart phones are very costly due to their high end capabilities. The money use to purchase them can be used to buy a lower end “tokunbo” (fairly used) car in Nigeria.

It can be observed from the above comparison that both phones run on the same version of Android Operating System (5.1). However the phones differ in terms of hardware. Sony Xperia Z5 has more enhanced hardware (Camera, resolution and so on) than Blackberry Priv. It is also incorporated with Touch ID and water resistance – features lacked by the Blackberry Priv. As a result Xperia Z5 Premium is costlier with a N10,000 price difference. Both phones are slick, pleasing to touch and surely, good mobile companions. I hope this post has been informative to and I’ll like to thank you for reading.
